ABOUT US

Victory Education Foundation (VEF) /Victory Christian Centre (VCC) AOG, is a UK based charity, and have founded this exciting new project to assist in enabling children and young people in West Africa Ghana/ Ivory Coast easy access to a basic education who without help will struggle to achieve this.

Project Background

We know that without this type of intervention many thousands of children and young people will continue to go without this basic right. We believe that every child should have access to a decent education and we are hoping that you do too!

Our Aim and Vision

Our main objective is to provide much needed educational resources to severely under resourced schools in Ghana/ Ivory Coast, whose children and young people come from families that simply cannot afford basic educational materials, to facilitate a decent level of learning to enrich their lives, break the cycle of poverty and provide a stronger platform for the future successes of the next generation.

Our vision for these children is one of well resourced schools, less children dropping out of school to work, more children reaching their full potential, enhanced opportunities for the next generation and better future outcomes for the whole community.

Who are we helping?

The first school that we have chosen to support is the Fetteh Church of Christ DA Basic School in the North-Eastern part of Gomoa Fetteh. It is a mixed school comprising of Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High, with 18 teachers and approximately 585 children ranging from 4 years old to 15 years of age. The biggest problem is the large number of children that have to drop out of education when they reach Junior High School, to work instead.

GOMOA FETTEH

Gomoa Fetteh is located in the Central Region of Ghana on the Accra Cape Coast Road close to Senya Bereku in the Gomoa East District. The town is situated close to the Gulf of Guinea and the main language of the town is Fante and Twi.

The town is a predominantly fishing and farming community with 3 public schools. Fishing is the main source of income. Children in schools find it difficult to get a daily square meal and basic educational needs, since parents cannot provide this for them. As a result of this, they leave school and resort to fishing in order to get food and earn money.

The town can boast of three public schools;

  • Church of Christ DA primary and Junior High School
  • Fetteh DA primary and JHS
  • Fetteh Dawson Memorial SDA primary and JHS

Private schools in the town are performing in terms of finance and infrastructure. Educational facilities in the private school sector are much better, compared to that of public schools, where pupils have difficulty in having access even the most basic of reading and writing materials.

Study materials such as exercise books, story books and school uniform are major problems for the public schools.

There is virtually no access to internet in the public schools since there is very little access or contact with computers. Teachers however find their own means of accessing the internet by either using their mobile networks or internet modems to research.

How we are helping

We are partnering with schools, companies, organisations and individuals in the UK that wish to donate study materials for school children at the Fetteh Church of Christ DA Basic School who desperately want to stay in education and learn.

We are collecting donations of pens, pencils, story books, text books, writing books, toys, calculators, crayons, erasers, note pads, maths sets, whiteboards, mini white boards, computer monitors, computer base unit, keyboard and mouse, school bags, science lab equipment, printers, hard drives, casual clothing, shoes, projectors, smart boards and any other items that can support the educational development of the children.

We are also keen to secure cash donations and other sources of funding to help feed school children at lunch time, as this is also an issue. Often teachers provide for these children from their own pockets to ensure the children have something to eat each day.
